Flagg-Rochelle Community Park board meeting

Park officials in Rochelle heard an update report last night on the possibility of having a YMCA in the Hub City.

Noah Carmichael and Dan Lundquist gave the presentation. If the facility is built, it would be a branch location tied into the DeKalb facility. There are no more charters being offered by the YMCA.

Lundquist said that they plan to visit the facility in Mt. Sterling on November 1st to look over their YMCA.

Lundquist said that the location and how the YMCA would be funded has yet to be determined. He hopes a facility can be built in a year to year and a half.

In a 5-2 vote, the board approved a $200 per month vehicle stipend for Executive Director Eric Christensen. Voting against the proposal were Christa Seebach and Bud Norcross.

Christensen plans to make a trip to Springfield for the Osland grant dealing with renovation work for Cooper Park. 115 agencies have applied for the state money.

The park district is also looking for grant money dealing with prairie grass on the west and north areas of Skare Park. The project may cost between 8 to 10,000 dollars.

The board talked about the deer population at Skare Park. The deer caused some damage to a number of yards last year near the park due to the cold winter.

The board plans to wait until after this winter to see if the deer problem continues for area residents.

Park officials met in executive session last night to talk about personnel and the lease of land. The union contract for the 4 employees comes to an end in February. No action was taken by the board last
