No charges against Whiteside County deputy following shooting

In area news, the state's attorney in Henry County has decided that no charges will be filed against a Whiteside County sheriff's deputy after he fired his gun during a high speed car chase south of Rock Falls.

The deputy has been on paid administrative leave since August 21st. He is expected to be working today.

Illinois State Police investigated the shooting. Henry County State's Attorney Terence Patton was appointed as a special prosecutor to avoid conflict of interest.

There were 3 people inside the car when the officer shot at the vehicle. No one suffered any injuries.

Patton said that the officer was justified in shooting at the tires of the fleeing vehicle to attempt to terminate the chase before innocent lives were lost.

The name of the deputy from Whiteside County has not been released at this time.
