City officials in Rochelle held a ceremony yesterday dealing with 2 major infrastructure expansion projects.
The 1st event involved the Caron Road lift station. The project will increase the sanitary system capacity to service more than 25 hundred acres of future industrial development on the south side of Rochelle. Gredco Director Jason Anderson said that the lift station is for current and future busisinesses.
The 2nd ceremony involved the city's railroad expansion. The project includes a 1,500 foot rail extension to the Union Pacific/city rail interchange yard, replacing the crossing on Caron Road, and a 2,200 foot extension of the city rail unit train yard.
Anderson said that within 2 years, revenue for the city will be $750,000 a year due to the volume of cars on the city's railroad.
Mayor Chet Olson also believes new businesses will come to Rochelle due to these 2 expansion projects.
The investment of the 2 projects totals 2.4 million dollars.
