A Lake Villa man suffered fatal injuries yesterday afternoon after the car he was driving crashed head-on with a semi-tractor trailer truck on I-39.
Pronounced dead at the scene was 65-year old Joseph Weingart.
The collision took place just north of Route 64 in Ogle County. Illinois State Police say that Weingart was traveling northbound on I-39 when his car crossed the center median and struck a semi-truck driven by 67-year old Phillip Curl of Sublette.
Curl was transported by Rochelle Fire Department ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.
Traffic was backed up for several hours on I-39 following the incident. The accident took place a short time before 2:30.
