Special prosecutor named in Whiteside County shooting

A special prosecutor has been appointed in connection with a shooting last month in Whiteside County that involved a sheriff's deputy. No one suffered any serious injuries from the altercation.

Reports indicate that the deputy fired his gun at a car during a chase with police. Illinois State Police have completed their investigation involving the shooting.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave. The special prosecutor will determine if any charges will be filed against the officer.

Authorities say that the officer fired his gun after he was almost hit by the offender vehicle. 3 arrests were made following the car chase. The driver of the vehicle was 24-year old Andre Peat of Sterling. He was arrested on the charge of 2 counts of aggravated fleeing to elude police along with reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a felon. Bond was set at $500,000.

2 passengers in the car, 27-year old Robert Patterson of Sterling and 26-year old Lavelle Sykes of Chicago, were arrested on the charge of resisting arrest.
