Rochelle Elementary Superintendent Todd Prusator
The Rochelle Elementary board approved some tough numbers last night when it comes to the new fiscal year budget. The district is looking at a deficit of over 1.5 million dollars.
The budget includes a deficit of 1.1 million dollars in the education fund and over $245,000 in the transportation fund. Board President Jean Tess said that the numbers were not pretty.
Superintendent Todd Prusator said that the reduction of state aid is 1 reasons for the lack of revenue for the district.
Enrollment in the district after the 1st week of classes totaled 1,578, 20 students fewer than a year ago.
In a 6-1 vote, the board approved $10,000 for the branding report on the city. It will deal with what the future will look like for the Hub City and what kind of image it will feature.
Voting against the proposal was board member Bob Burke.
The report should be started in the 1st part of 2015.
School officials tabled the tax abatement for 1 year at 50 percent for the Fairways Golf Course and The Beacon on the Green restaurant. They wanted to make sure that some youth golf programs took place this summer before they make their final decision.
Sheri Kilndera and Linda Emshoff recently received the "Those Who Excel" award for their work in the classroom. They will receive recognition during a banquet next month in Bloomington.
Sherrie Welles also plans to retire with the Middle School chorus after the 2015-16 school year.
