Several locations in Rochelle are scheduled to be cleaned up in the near future which may have petroleum or other hazardous materials in the ground.
The city recently received 2 grants that total $200,000 each from the Brownsfield Community Wide Assessments program. That money will be used for engineering and clean up costs on the land.
Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson said that there are around 15 areas in the city that will be checked.
Mayor Olson was a guest this week on the program "Let The People Know". He said that property owners in the city would be happy to have their area cleaned up in the future.
The city hired a local engineering company this week to start the work on the project.
"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoons at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday mornings at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday mornings at 6 on "The Coyote".
Next week's guest will be NIU Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, Sean Frazier.
