A DeKalb woman suffered fatal injuries early yesterday morning after she was drving the wrong way on I-88 and crashed into another vehicle head-on.
Reports indicate that 28-year old Kimberly Havlicek was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-88, just west of Annie Glidden Road in rural DeKalb, when the vehicle struck a car driven by 40-year old Juan Ayala-Jimenez of Sterling. The head-on colllision took place a short time before 1am.
Ayala-Jimenez was flown by helicopter to a Rockford hospital and is listed in serious condition.
At least 1 lane on I-88 was closed for around 3 hours yesterday morning following the crash. The incident remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.
