The Village of Ashton has received a $287,000 low interest loan to improve the sanitary sewer system in the community.
The money was announced yesterday by Governor Pat Quinn as part of the Illinois Clean Water program.
Ashton officials will use the money for phase 2 of the west side trunk sewer project. This includes new sewers and manholes.
The work will eliminate existing waste in the northwest section of the village which has had backup problems in the past during wet weather.
The sewer project is expected to be completed by February of 2015.
