City officials in Rochelle approved a proposal last night dealing with the extension of the Lee County enterprize zone for a possible new industry in the Hub City.
The enterprize zone would expand by around 45 acres north of the Route 38 West. The company, known as "Project Red", is a "fresh" food distribution business based in Chicago which would have around 60 employees at their 2 facilities.
Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson talked about the importance of expanding the enterprize zone on the west side of town in which other businesses may locate in the future.
The council tabled the bid for the blower at the Treatment Plant at just under $211,900. The city will received $54,000 from the Illnois Clean Energy Foundation to purchase the unit. It was budget at only $125,000.
City officials heard a presentation last night from Barbara Bell dealing with a voice response system involving RMU when there is a power outage. The program will benefit RMU during non-business hours.
The voice system will be in both English and Spanish.
RMU is also working on a new service order system to improve interactions, daily work flow, and increase productivity.
The city also hired an engineering firm dealing with the 2 Brownfields Community Wide Assessments grants that total $200,000 each. It deals with the clean-up of petroleum and other hazardous materials in the city.
The council met in executive session to talk about pending litigation. No action was taken.
Absent last night from the meeting were councilwoman Kathy Hollonbeck and City Manager David Plyman.
