Companies in the business involving cultivating medical cannabis facilities have contacted a number of area cities and villages due to the new law in Illinois.
Only 1 facility will be allowed in each of the Illinois State Police Districts. 1 of the districts includes Ogle, Lee, Carroll, and Whiteside Counties.
The village of Hillcrest has been contacted about a building which would be located at Twombly and Dement Roads if the project is approved by the state.
During this week's program "Let The People Know", Mayor Chet Olson said that the city is really not interested in a medical cannabis facility. The do not have any empty buildings at the present time for a particular company.
The city has also applied for a C-DAP grant involving "Project Red" for fiber optic and communication services. This would be a fresh food distribution company based in Chicago. Olson said that it would be good for the city if a new business opens along Route 38 on the west side of the Hub City.
Olson said that the project would also help in getting an overpass for Jack Dame Road in the future.
The company would have around 60 employees if it opens 2 facilities in Rochelle.
"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoons at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday mornings at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday mornings at 6 on "The Coyote".
Next week's guest will be Gredco Director Jason Anderson of Rochelle.
