RTHS board approves drug program for students

(Rochelle Township High School Superintendent Jamie Craven)

The Rochelle Township High School board approved their 1st drug testing program last night dealing with students in extra-curricular activities. This includes student athletes.

Superintendent Jamie Craven said that the district's goal is to help students who may have a drug problem.

Penalties include 1/4 of a season for an athlete involving a 1st offense. A 2nd offense deals with half their season.

The board table a decision dealing with a resolution in filing an intent to intervene in the property tax assessment appeals proceeding from the Americold Properties. A decision by school officials will be made in September.

A budget workshop is scheduled for September 8th at 5pm. The district is looking at a deficit of $126,800. Revenue is projected to be at 14.3 million dollars while expenditures at $14.4 million dollars.

Craven said that state aid has dropped from 3 million dollars in 2008 to 1.1 million dollars for 2015.

Resignations last night included Dick Devore as Head of Transportation on June 30th, 2015.
