Trial delayed for a Rockford man in Byron shooting

A jury trial will not take place in Ogle County later this month for a Rockford man in connection with a shooting which took place last March in rural Byron.

21-year old Brandon McMahon has been charged with the felony offense of attempted 1st degree murder along with aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Other charges include unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Authorities say that McMahon shot 19-year old Wyatt Ackerson of Byron during an altercation at a party on March 22nd. Ackerson was hospitalized following the incident.

McMahon has pled not guilty to the charges. A jury trial date was scheduled for August 19th. Following a pre-trial conference last week, the jury trial was postponed. McMahon returns to court on September 12th for a status hearing in the case. He remains in jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

McMahon has also been charged with a shooting that took place in Winnebago County earlier this year.

He has done time in prison and was paroled in July of last year. Charges included armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a gang member.
