It may be a problem this winter for cities, villages, along with counties and townships to purchase salt for their roadways.
The supply may be limited as the year goes on along with a sharp increase in costs.
Rochelle Street Superintendent Tim Isley said that the city has their salt supply already purchased for the winter season ahead.
He said that the cost may be 30 to 40 percent higher than a year ago.
Nearly 200 towns and cities in Illinois are looking for road salt for the upcoming cold weather.
Isley also said that the city has lost around 300 trees this year due to the emerald ash borer.
