In a 5-1 vote last night, The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District board approved $10,000 for a area-wide brand development study involving the city. Board President Roger Bunger was absent from the gathering.
The price tag is $100,000 for the services of Roger Brooks International involving a new image for Rochelle. Voting against the study was Commissioner Christa Seebach. She felt that taxpayers' money should not be used for this project.
Park District Executive Director Eric Christensen said that the company has a good track record in working with commununities.
The board heard from representatives dealing with the Rochelle Junior Tackle Football program, Little League, and Rampage about the athletic fields. Most of the discussion involved using the baseball field and 2 softball fields at the Helms Athletic Complex possibly in the future for games and practises.
The board approved $13,000 for engineering work involving the extension of the bike path near the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad's cattle crossing area. The underground tunnel could cost $500,000. This is most likely a 15 to 20 year project in the future for the park district.
