City officials in Rochelle continue to move forward in having quiet zones at their railroad crossings in the Hub City.
Between 80 to 100 trains use the tracks the average day in Rochelle between the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Union Pacific Railroads. There are 11 crossings in the city.
During this week's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle City Manager David Plyman said that this is 1 project that needs to be completed in the near future.
Earlier this week, the council approved work on the city rail due to the increase in traffic in the future. There are around 38 hundred railcars that use the tracks a year right now. That number is expected to increase to 14 to 18 thousand during a 12 month period. Plyman said that the additional money can help pay for the quiet zone project.
The price tag could be between 1 to 2 million dollars. The earliest any work will be done on the railroad crossings would be in 2015.
"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoons at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and re-broadcast Saturday mornings at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday mornings at 6 on "The Coyote".
Next week's guest will be Ogle County State's Attorney Mike Rock.
