The City of Oregon has ambulance service again.
The fire protection district signed a 10 month agreement this week with ATS Medical Services of Loves Park. ATS will be based at the Oregon Fire Station and will handle all ambulance calls.
Oregon Ambulance, a nonprofit organization, stopped service for residents due to financial reasons on June 17th. Since then, ambulance calls were being handled by area fire departments.
The Oregon Fire Protection District does not have a tax supported ambulance service. They plan to put the issue on the ballot for voters to decide in November or April of next year.
ATS will bill anyone they transport to an area hospital. The fire protection district will pay for any bills over due since Medicaid and Medicare pay a limited amount for qualified patients. That total will vary each month.
