Creston Board Meeting

Village officials in Creston last night approved the new fiscal year appropriation. The figure totals $497,730 which is 4.9 percent higher than a year ago.

The amount is the total the village can spend during a fiscal year. Board President Tom Byro said the financial picture looks good for the village at this time.

1 project that won't be done this summer is seal coating of the streets. The bid came in 30 percent higher than the budgeted price for the project in Creston. Patch work will be done for the next 12 months on the streets.

Residents in Creston will see their garbage bill go up starting on August 1st. The board approved the 5-year contract last night with Northern Illinois Disposal.

The current monthly rate is $7.25. It goes up to $9.50 a month. If you want to be involved in the recycling program, that's an additional $2 a month. The prices are good for the next 5 years.

Byro said it was the 1st increase in garabge rates in nearly 30 years.

The bid for stormwater work on Prairie Street was approved at $39,585. The project is behind Casey's General Store.

Village officials along with representatives from the Dement Park District continue to talk about mowing of grass in the Creston Commons subdivision. They are waiting for a response from the developer about the work that needs to be done in the near future with the detention ponds and ditches.
