A Texas man was found dead this week on top of a parking garage in the 11 hundred block of North 7th street in Rochelle.
28-year old David Armendarez of McCamey, Texas was pronounced dead at the scene early Thursday morning from what appears to be a fall from the roof of a nearby hotel. He had been on the roof of the parking garage for a period of time before a local resident called police.
Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby said that they are not looking at any foul play at this time in the case. It appears that Armendarez jumped from the hotel roof next the the parking garage. The fall is about 80 feet.
A resident from a condo at the building also told police that the alarm went off early Thursday morning for the door to the roof.
Following an autopsy yesterday in Oregon, the cause of death was blunt trauma to the chest due to a fall. Ogle County officials will know more about the incident once the results come back from the toxicology report. That should take around 2 weeks.
Police had also thought at 1 time that Armendarez may have fallen from a nearby truck.
He was staying at a local hotel in Rochelle with another person. Local police are not sure why he was in the Hub City. He had previously worked on some wind turbine projects.
The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted in the case with Rochelle police.
