Illinois State Police continue to investigate a shooting that took place in DeKalb County Saturday afternoon which involved a sheriff's deputy.
Reports indicate that authorities received word of a man with a gun at Suburban Estates on Twombly Road in rural DeKalb a short time before 1.
When police arrived on the scene, 23-year old Hassan Colemen of DeKalb had gone into an apartment in the 2300 building of Suburban Estates.
Coleman did not live in the apartment, but knew the people who lived there. They were not being held hostage and were able to leave the apartment unharmed.
Reports indicate that Colemen allegedly threatened police and engaged in aggressive action for more than an hour. He was then shot by a sheriff's deputy in defense of himself and others at the scene.
Colemen was the only person hurt from the confrontation. He was first transported by ambulance to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb and later to a Rockford hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Charges are pending against Colemen.
Assisting at the scene were DeKalb and NIU Police Departments.
