Several Memorial Day Services will take place today as we honor those individuals who have helped protect this country.
In Rochelle, the parade begins at 10 at City Hall. If you are an organization or group who wants to be part of the parade, the line-up begins at 9:30.
The parade will go through the downtown area to Lincoln Avenue. It will then travel down 9th Street to 8th Avenue. The parade comes to an end at the Lawnridge Cemetery where a ceremony will take place between 10:45 and 11. The guest speaker will be Chuck Roberts from the American Legion.
The Rochelle VFW Post 3878 will not be placing the American Flags at the local cemeteries today due to the chance of rain this morning. The have 417 American Flags.
In case of rain this morning, the parade would be cancelled and the ceremony will take place at the VFW in Rochelle.
Memorial Day ceremonies will also be held in the following communities:
**Woodlawn Cemetery at 10:30am in Creston: Guest speaker will be Army Veteran Amy Shaw
**In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Creston
**Ashton: American Legion Post 345 will have the ceremony at 10am at the Mills and Petrie Memorial Building.
**Oregon: Parade begins at 10am at the old courthouse. Wreaths will be placed on the 2 memorials at 9:45am. The parade will end at the Riverside Cemetery where a ceremony will be held. Guest speaker will be Richard Day from the Oregon VFW. A potluck luncheon will follow the ceremony at the VFW on Washington Street.
**Byron: Events begins at Neighbors Rehab on 2nd Street at 10:30. The parade will follow.
**Mt. Morris: Parade begins at 10am at the Band Shell. Vietnam veteran and Mt. Morris native Doug Wean will be the guest speaker as the ceremony begins at 11am at the Veterans Memorial Fountain.
**Leaf River: Ceremony will be held at the Bertolet Memorial Building at 10:30.
