Rochelle City Council meets tonight

The approval of a new fiscal year budget, an increase in electric bills, and seal coat work this summer on the streets and alleys tops the agenda this evening for city officials in Rochelle. The council meeting begins at 7.

Revenues and expenditures in the General Fund total 8.8 million dollars. The budget will have a surplus of $14,642.

The proposed electric rate increase would be 3%. An average residential customer who has an summer electric bill of $110 per month will see an increase of $5.42 per month. The increase in the other 8 months would be $1 per month.

Seal coat work this summer will total just under $129,000. Motor fuel tax money will be used to pay for the project.

The city also plans to purchase the right-of-way at 104 South Washington Street to improve sight lines for motorists on 1st Avenue. The purchase price will be $10,000.

Tonight's Rochelle City Council meeting is open to the public.
