Quick actions by a Rochelle police officer prevented a prisoner from hurting himself in his jail cell yesterday.
The incident took place a short time before noon. The Rochelle fire department ambulance came to the police station for a choking incident.
The male subject was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital for treatment.
Police Chief Eric Higby said that the prisoner did not pass out in the jail cell. He said it was only a short period of time that he tried to hurt himself.
By state Law, Higby said that they need to check a prisoner in jail once every half hour.
