Machesney Park woman back in Ogle County court following shooting in rural Byron

A Machesney Park woman pled not guilty in Ogle County court yesterday in connection with a shooting that took place last month in rural Byron.

18-year old Rachel Deiter has been charged with the felony offense of concealing or aiding a fugitive.

The case involves 20-year old Brandon McMahon of Rockford who allegedly shot 19-year old Wyatt Ackerson of Byron during an altercation at a party. He has been charged with attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a gun. Other charges include possession of a weapon by a felon and gang member.

Officials say that the incident with Deiter and McMahon took place the same day of the shooting, March 22nd.

Deiter demanded a jury trial yesterday during her preliminary hearing and received a pre-trial conference date of Monday.

Bond was also reduced from $75,000 to $20,000. Deiter was able to post 10 percent of that figure or $2,000 and was released from jail.

McMahon is in the Winnebago County jail. He is also a suspect in a shooting that took place in that county.
