Hillcrest officials move forward involving sanitary sewer project

Numerous residents in the Village of Hillcrest attended last night's board meeting as they had questions about the possibility of sanitary sewer in the community.

There are 2 different projects village officials are looking at. 1 involves a CDAP grant for 27 homes in a 3 block area. The proposal includes the 300 and 400 blocks of Scott Avenue, the 200 and 300 blocks of Jeffrey Avenue, and Hillcrest Avenue in the 300 and 400 blocks. Estimated cost is $500,000.

The other work will be located near River Road, Roy Avenue, Wayne Road, Linda Avenue, along with Errett and Powers Roads. This includes 63 homes along with the business area at a cost of 2.5 million dollars.

Village officials hope to receive state grant money for the project. They also plan to take out a loan from the Illinois EPA.

Home owners and businesses will also pay for the project. Board President Kim Whalen said that the cost will range from 15 to 70 dollars per month.

Whalen said that they need sanitary sewer to draw businesses to Hillcrest.

The system would be hooked into the treatment plant in Rochelle. The hook-up fee for each home would be $700.

This portion of the project will take about 2 years to complete. The entire cost for the village is estimated to be around 11 million dollars.

A meeting involving the sewer project in Hillcrest will be held next Wednesday at 7 in the village hall building.
