Outdoor sidewalk cafes may be coming to Rochelle

Residents in Rochelle may see people eating outside in the downtown area in the near future when the weather warms up.

The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended to city officials last night that outdoor sidewalk cafes should be an option for businesses in the Hub City. There would have to be room on the sidewalk for this to happen for the business along with following regulations set by the city.

The commission also talked about the sign ordinance last night. This included banners along with projected signs.

2 presentations were heard as the commission plans to update the city's comprehensive plan for future growth.

Barbara Bell from RMU talked about energy insentives they have for residents and businesses in Rochelle. She also commented on energy conservation along with the on-line billing program and customer feed back from services they offer.

Rochelle Community Hospital CEO Mark Batty also talked about services they offer to the community. RCH is the number 1 critical access hospital in Illinois as it brings in 29 million dollars in revenues annually and has 245 employees. It also has a multi-specialty center which was established in 2000.
