City officials in Rochelle move forward in train horn issue

City officials in Rochelle are moving forward in trying to reduce the train horn noise in the Hub City.

Last night they approved an engineering agreement for the quiet zones dealing with the 11 railroad crossings in the Hub City. The figure totals just under $77,000.

The city is looking at a design and the estimated cost for the entire project in reducing the train horn noise in the community.

The bid was approved for the taxiway work at the Municipal Airport that totals $737,000. The city's share will be 10 percent of that figure or $73,700.

The council also approved the pension funding policies for both the police and fire departments. They will also be involved in the ice skating rink near Central Grade School along with the park and elementary school districts. The city will supply the water for the rink.

City officials met for about 15 minutes in executive session to talk about personnel. No action was taken.

Absent from last night meeting were Councilmen Dennis Berg and Bil Hayes.
