Bond set for Rochelle man after cigarettes are stolen from a local business

An Ogle County judge set bond at $50,000 yesterday for a Rochelle man after he allegedly stole more than 280 packs of cigarettes from a Hub City business.

26-year old Bryce Johnson has been charged with the felony offense of burglary.

The theft took place at the Road Ranger in the 11 hundred block of North 7th Street. Authorities say that Johnson was seen on the video camera of the store taking the packs of cigarettes after he had been in the store of couple of times in the past week.

The employee of the store was doing work away from the front counter when the cigarettes were stolen.

Johnson remains in jail in lieu of bond and returns to court on Wednesday for an arraignment.

He is also currently on parole following a residential burglary conviction.
