Monroe Center man sentenced to prison for home invasion incident

A Monroe Center man will do some time in prison following a home invasion incident last spring in Ogle County.

34-year old Kenneth Shearer pled guilty to the Class "X" felony offense and received a sentence of 6 years in the Department of Corrections.

The altercation took place during the early morning hours of May 22nd of last year in the 100 block of West Roosevelt Road in Stillman Valley.

Police say that Shearer along with 33-year old Robert Vermeis and 27-year old Caleb Rainwater, both from Monroe Center, forced their way into the home and assaulted the male victim. The home owner suffered minor injuries from the confrontation.

Officers from the Byron police department were 1st on the scene and took all 3 men into custody outside the home following a 911 call.

Rainwater pled guilty last October to criminal trespass to a residence. He received a sentence of 3 years probation, 120 days in jail, along with 100 hours of community service work.

Vermeis is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on the charge of home invasion on Monday in Ogle County court.
