Icy road conditions caused many problems for area motorists last night and this morning as area police agencies had a hard time keeping up with the vehicle crashes.
In most cases, the car traveled off the pavement into a ditch. Motorists could not control their vehicle after hitting the "Black Ice" on the roadway.
Major highways in the area that included Route 64, 38, 2 and 72 were shutdown in sections for periods of time due to accidents last night and this morning.
Route 64 in rural Oregon had a semi-truck collide with a car as the semi rolled over onto it's side in the south ditch. Minor injuries were reported.
There was also a rollover accident on Twombly road in rural Rochelle yesterday evening that resulted in no injuries.
The roads were so slick that RTHS postponed the boys basketball game with DeKalb as fans were told to go home and use only I-88 or I-39 for traveling needs after the girls game was completed.
Sidewalks and parking lots also remain slippery today due to the ice.
There are also many reports of standing water on roadways due to the melting snow from the rain. Flooding is expected to continue this weekend with temperatures in the mid to upper 30's.
