A procedural vote extending longterm unemployment benefits has been postponed in the Senate. A number of senators faced weather delays as they tried to return to Washington, DC yesterday. The procedural vote was rescheduled for today. It would formally open debate on legislation to extend jobless aid for three months. Some Republicans who are open to an extension want to offset the costs with spending cuts elsewhere.
Around 3,000 residents in Ogle, Boone, and Winnebago counties had their jobless aid expire on December 28th of last year.
