Bitterly cold temperatures today for area residents

State and local officials are describing today's arctic freeze as historic, brutal and potentially deadly for Northern Illinois.

The low this morning has reached 18 below zero with the wind chills at 40 to 50 below zero.

The wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday. The high today is expected to be 12 to 16 below zero.

Temperatures tonight will be between 14 to 18 below zero with the wind chills of 35 to 45 below zero.

Many secondary roads remain snow packed and slippery today. Residents are reminded that the snow ordinance remains in effect in their community. You should park you vehicle on the even numbered side of the street.
