Rochelle man sentenced to prison after filing false report to police

A Rochelle man will be doing some time in jail after reporting a car being stolen to local police last April.

31-year old John Anderson has pled guilty to the Class 2 felony offense of false report of a vehicle theft.

Reports indicate that Anderson was traveling south bound on Dement Road when his car hit the curb and then the guardrail.

Police say that Anderson then lost control of the vehicle as it traveled down the overpass hill.

The local man then fled the area on foot. Anderson was arrested after he tried to report the car stolen the next monring.

He was also ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident, driving in the wrong lane, and improper lane usage.

Anderson was sentenced to 3 years in the Department of Corrections on the felony offense. He must also pay court costs.

Anderson, formerly of Cortland, does have a prior conviction of burglary.
