Rochelle police arrest local man after snowmobile left on railroad tracks

Rochelle police arrested a local man yesterday after they found the snowmobile he was riding on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks on the south side of town.

The incident took place a short time before 3:30 as the snowmobile was found on the tracks near Erie Foods in the 12 hundred block of South Main Street.

A passenger on the snowmobile was at Erie Foods and needed medical treatment for a head injury. He was transported by ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital.

Police later learned that 40-year old Douglas Harms of Rochelle was driving the snowmobile on the railroad tracks when it got stuck. Police were able to get the vehicle off the tracks before any trains came by.

Harms was ticketed for operating a snowmobile on the railroad tracks, no valid driver's license, and negligent operations of a vehicle.
