Attorney General investigates scam cases involving tornado victims

Residents of Washington and other tornado-damaged communities are being targeted by scammers and the Illinois Attorney General's Office has set up field offices to investigate. AG Lisa Madigan's office says one out-of-state organization is already under investigation for a potential fundraising scam tied to relief efforts. And with hundreds of contractors moving in, she says the potential for fraud is great. Field offices are helping to verify the credentials of contractors and to serve as a deterrent for fraud. Meanwhile, the latest figures from the National Weather Service confirm that 24 tornadoes hit in Illinois and 28 in Indiana, making November 17 the most violent November weather day on record.
