Federal damage assessment teams are beginning to survey the tornado destruction in Washington. The estimates will be used to determine whether communities affected by Sunday’s storm will qualify for federal disaster aid. Many people still aren’t allowed to get to their properties to try to salvage what they can. Some businesses have reopened in Washington, but are observing early closing times to honor the curfew that remains in effect all weekend.
Demolition work is expected to begin next week.
