Illinois is now officially the 16th state to allow same-sex marriage. Governor Pat Quinn signed the bill into law at a ceremony at the UIC forum in Chicago yesterday. He slowly signed the bill with 100 pens that became souvenirs for key lawmakers and others that helped pass the bill. The governor referenced President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, and signed the bill on the same desk that the 16th president wrote his first inaugural address. The law takes effect next June.
