A dog park facility is scheduled to be open in 2014 on the south side of Rochelle.
Park officials heard an update report on the proposal last night for VFW Park. Park District Executive Director Eric Christensen said the facility will be located at the north end of the park and will have a fence.
The dog park is expected to cost between 20 to 25,000 dollars once completed.
The board took no action on the purchase of a new 3/4 ton pick-up truck at a cost of $35,700. This included a snow plow and tommy lift. Christensen plans to get some prices on a used 3/4 ton truck from some local dealers before a final decision is made.
The 2013-14 tax levy for the distirct was approved. The increase will be at 4.9 percent.
The board has decided not to hire an architect for upgrades at Powers Park in Hillcrest. Christensen talked about phase 1 which will not exceed $60,000. The work will include a walking path and playground equipment.
The walking path will be a 1/4 of a mile. Future upgrades at the park includes a shelter, a parking lot, and work on the baseball field.
The work will begin next spring in Hillcrest.
The board approved $5,000 for each of the next 3 years involving new trees at "The Fairways" golf course. They will budget the $15,000 only if the city matches this offer. They also plan to start a tree nursery at Skare Park in the future.
Park officials met in executive session to talk about a personnel matter. No action was taken.
