City officials in Rochelle last night heard a presentation dealing with the possibility of renovating the former Hub Theater in the downtown area.
A committee has been formed in hopes of opening the facility within the next 2 years.
City Attorney Alan Cooper gave the presentation for the committee last night. He believes that this project should be funded by the city.
Cooper said that the renovation costs will be between 1 to 1.5 million dollars. He said that the city could used funds from the landfill which total around 3 million dollars.
The purchase price for the building is $100,000.
The plans would have a theater that would seat 400 to 500 people with tables and chairs, lounge seating, and a bar. There would professional live entertainment on the weekends along with theater productions, movies, conferences, along with weddings and cultural events.
A professional manager would have to be hired for the theater. The committee is hoping for volunteers for the events.
The Hub Theater was built in in 1931. It closed it's doors in early 2011.
No action was taken by the Rochelle City Council last night.
